Anodizing color consistency across two batches — what to specify?

Batch 1 came back a nice deep black Type II anodize; batch 2 from the same supplier is noticeably grayer. What should I put in the spec so this doesn't happen? RAL codes? Sample approval?

Specify: Type II, black, dye class, sealed, and require a first-article color sample approved before the batch. Also note the alloy — 6061 and 7075 take dye differently, and mixed alloys in a batch is the most common cause of gray parts.
