Showcase: 200-part SLS PA12 run for a drone gimbal — lessons on nesting and dyeing

We just finished a 200-unit production run of a drone gimbal housing in SLS PA12 and wanted to share what worked.

Nesting: 2 builds of 100 parts each. Parts oriented at 15° to reduce stair-stepping on the curved face. Packing density 11%.

Post-processing: bead blasting → black dye → vapour smoothing on the visible surfaces only.

What we'd change: the 1.2 mm ribs came out ~1.05 mm; next time we'd design ribs at 1.5 mm minimum. Photos of the final parts attached below.

Great documentation. Did you see any Z-height dependent shrink across the two builds, or was the dimensional spread consistent?

Spread was ±0.15 mm on the 68 mm datum across both builds. Bottom-of-build parts ran about 0.08 mm smaller than the top — we compensated by grouping critical-fit parts in the middle third.
